Testimonial of 3 1/2″ “NETTA” RePaint and Complete Build
In November 2015 I commissioned the fledgling BP Loco Works to paint my grandfathers 3 ½” NETTA which I had taken on in order to return it to working order. This concluded a project which had been 5 years in the making and something which I was determined would be concluded within my grandfather’s lifetime. Ben not only provided a professional quote but an outstanding service throughout. This included posting me a book on the full-size locos to allow me to choose an appropriate number and organising for the works plates to be made by a local specialist. On top of this he kept me informed at every stage giving a myriad of options so that the loco would be as I wished.
I was pleased to receive regular updates in photo form which Ben took the time to send to me and a realistic timeframe was maintained. On top of this he organised for a hydraulic boiler test while the loco was apart which was an added advantage and at no extra cost. I was extremely pleased with the techniques and skills employed as they continued the high-quality mechanical work my grandfather had put into the original loco. Following completion Ben was personally on hand to ensure the loco operated satisfactorily on its first steaming, needless to say it ran faultlessly for 3 hours on its first outing. There were no hidden costs, a tight budget was maintained and Ben was clearly proud of the work he had done rather than seeing it as ‘just another job. Ben understands that locomotives are a personal thing and that real engineering takes time and patience. No half measures were ever considered. I would highly recommend BP Locoworks to anyone wanting work done on a miniature loco or traction engine, be prepared to be patient however as Ben is in high demand. As an added bonus, while on display on Ben’s stand at the 2017 Manchester ME show, the loco caught the eye of the Model Engineer editor who featured it in a dedicated article as well as on the front cover of the publication. This concluded a remarkable story and for me, was the icing on the cake. Thank you Ben!
